Nico was rescued from slaughter by an incredible therapy barn. Before being sent to auction, he worked as a cart pony for the Amish. After his rescue, Nico served as a therapeutic riding horse for two years, where he lovingly cared for his young riders. Eventually, he began to experience discomfort under saddle and was no longer enjoying his work.

Nico came to IRES in the fall of 2024 to be able to figure out how to help him stay happy and comfortable! After consulting with our veterinarian we have decided it would be in his best interest to retire!

Nico’s ideal home will have a nice big pasture for him to run and play with friends! He loves getting groomed and spending quality time with his people.
He does require twice yearly bloodwork as well as InsulinWise daily, to help keep his metabolic status in check.

Nico leads, stands for the farrier and grooming, loads in the trailer, and is up to date on all vaccines.
